ISLAMABAD, 17 January 2007 — A Russian aircraft with two flat tires and 155 passengers on board made an emergency landing at the Lahore airport on Tuesday night.
Lahore airport officials were alerted by the Bangkok aviation authorities about the emergency situation soon after the plane’s takeoff. The Lahore airport officials were told that two tires of the aircraft burst during takeoff. The plane was on its way to Tashkent from Bangkok.
All measures were taken to ensure a safe belly landing by the aircraft. Airport Security Force sources told Arab News the aircraft landed safely.
Mohammed Haider, an official at the airport’s control tower, said the passengers and crew had disembarked from the plane.
“Thank God the passengers are safe,” he told the Associated Press by phone.
Haider did not give further details except to say the airport had reopened for air traffic.
