JEDDAH, 29 January 2007 — Al-Ittihad travel to Riyadh for the match against Al-Shabab in Riyadh and Al-Ahli host Al-Qadisiya in Jeddah after the draw was made for the Prince Faisal ibn Fahd Cup football tournament. The Saudi Football Federation conducted the draw to determine the semifinal matchups on Saturday.
Saudi Spikers Gear Up for Arab Championship
JEDDAH, 29 January 2007 — The Saudi national volleyball team, bronze medal winners at the Doha Asian Games last December, are to enter training camp in Egypt from Feb. 7 to 16. The Egypt trip is in preparation of the team’s participation in the Arab Championship to be held in Tunisia end of February.
Autistics Sportsfest
JEDDAH, 29 January 2007 — The Kingdom will host the 2nd GCC Sports Tournament for Autistics in April, it was was announced by Awad Al-Raddadi, deputy minister at the Ministry of Social Affairs. Saeed Al-Ghamdi, general director at the Makkah Province, wished for the success of this tournament as well as participants from the Gulf countries. The officials thanked Prince Turki ibn Nassir, president of the Saudi Autistic Society, for his massive efforts in the staging of the sports meet for autistic persons.
Award for 3 Best Basketball Referees
JEDDAH, 29 January 2007 — The Saudi Basketball Federation will honor the best three referees of the season with an award named for international referee and sport commentator Wahib Muhi Al-Dein Khalil. SBF technical committee member Mansour Al-Ahmri, Wahib Khalil and national coach Abdulhamid Abdullah will recommend the qualified referees for the Khalil award. The general secretary at SBF thanked Khalil for his gesture to encourage the Saudi referees. — Razan Baker
