Saudi Riders Qualify for World Cup
Saudi riders Khalid Al-Eid and Prince Abdullah ibn Miteb ibn Abdullah both managed to qualify for the Equestrian World Cup to be held in the US at the end of this year. Al-Eid secured his qualification at the Bahrain International Championship held in Bahrain yesterday. He won the Bahrain King’s Cup with a record 54 points placing him second in the Arab League after Prince Abdullah, who has 83 points. Abdullah Al-Shurbatly is third with 50 points and with Kamal Bahmdan fourth with 49 points.
Khaleej, Qadisiya Score Wins
Saudi team Al-Khaleej won their first match in the Arab Handball Championship for clubs held in Dammam by beating Wehda Tarim of Yemen 46-16 on Wednesday. Al-Qadisiya also won their match against Al-Wakrah of Qatar 29-17 on Thursday. Meanwhile, Al-Ahli is getting ready for the GCC Handball Championship that will kick off on March 8 and they meet Qadisiya of Kuwait in their first match, and Ahli of Bahrain meet Masqat of Oman on the same day in Group B. Group A includes Al-Sulaibikhat of Kuwait, Al-Ain of UAE, Al-Ahli of Qatar and Al-Najmah of Bahrain.
Kudmani, Muhana Break Gulf Records
Saudi swimmer Ahmed Al-Kudmani, 27, succeeded in breaking his previous record of 29.01 with a time of 28.88 in the 50m butterfly event at the GCC Championship at Abdullah Al-Salim Indoor halls at Al-Qadisiya Club in Kuwait. Saudi Bader Al-Muhana, 19, broke his old record with a time of 25.70 in the 100m butterfly event. Three other Gulf records were set through Daoud Al-Khalifi (Kuwait) in the 100m backstroke and Walid Al-Qahtani (Kuwait) and Maysarah Al-Araj (Qatar) in the 100m free. The other Saudi performances came in the 50m freestyle when Ahmed Tashkandi placed third with 35.05, while in the 400m freestyle Mohammed Al-Gharib placed second after finishing in 4.21,36. In the 50m breastroke event Kameel Al-Ghallaf placed second in 45.21, and in the 200m singles medley Saudi Yousif Al-Yousif came first in 2.12,53. Ahmed Al-Hashim placed second in 100m medley with a time of 1.29,91.
Ahli Spikers Lose in Quarterfinals
After qualifying for the quarterfinals, Ahli lost against Al-Nasr of UAE 3-0 in the 25th Arab Volleyball Championship for clubs held in Tunisia on Thursday. In the qualifying ties they lost against Al-Rayyan of Qatar 3-1, they succeeded in winning the next three matches; outplaying Al-Hussain of Jordan 3-2, Arbil team of Iraq 3-0, and Al-Mareikh of Sudan 3-0 which helped them qualify for the quarterfinals.
