RIYADH, 20 March 2007 — An international medical research center will be established soon at the King Abdul Aziz Medical City (KAMC), according to an announcement made at the sixth international conference on blood cancer inaugurated by Prince Miteb ibn Abdullah, assistant deputy commander of the National Guard for military affairs, at King Fahd Cultural Center yesterday.

“The new center, which will be housed at the King Saud University for Health Sciences, will engage in medical research which would benefit both local and international communities,” Dr. Abdullah Rabeeah, chief executive officer of the hospital, said during the inaugural session. He added that the research center would be named after Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah. He also pointed out that arrangements are being made to establish a tumor center where malignant cases could be diagnosed and treated.

More than 500 delegates from all parts of the Kingdom were present at the opening of the four-day conference meant for oncologists, physicians, nurses and health professionals who are dealing with cancer related diseases.

Following the inauguration, the prince also opened a state-of-the-art exhibition featuring exhibits from pharmaceutical companies, medical suppliers, clinical diagnostic and research-based companies, publishers and non-profit making organizations.
