JEDDAH, 13 April 2007 — The Bison Al-Anjal Bicycle Race will be held here on April 24 with more than 1,500 students from private and public schools taking part in the annual event.
The race was launched two years ago with the participation of Al-Anjal schools. In view of its success in the second year, the level of participation heightened and has thus become a regular event under the supervision of Department of Education, Western Province, and the Presidency of Youth Welfare, Loai Saeed, manager of marketing programs at Abouljadayel Beverage Factory, said. He emphasized the importance of supporting students’ various activities and praised the high level of participation.
“In the first round, the race was limited to only Al-Anjal schools students, and as the organizers had proven high levels of coordination and organization, we decided to widen the participation and allow the rest of private schools in Jeddah to participate in the second round, which was held last year. With the continued success of the race, and approval of the Department of Education for the participation of all schools in the province, we expect the number of participants to be more than 1,500 students of all age groups.” Preparations for the race are in full swing. The race distance will be about 10 km, and it will take place from Al-Rhama mosque at the Corniche. The race will be divided into various categories according to age groups of the participating students.
Race coordinator Abdullah Al-Amri said that registration for the event started from the very first day of its announcement. “We have prepared special entry forms for participants to ensure the participation of the largest number of students of all age groups.”
