JEDDAH, 16 April 2007 — Mohamed Yousuf Naghi Motors (MYNM) — exclusive distributor of BMW cars in the Kingdom, launched here yesterday the next generation seven-seater BMW X5.
“This car brings with it a combination of driving dynamics, function and exclusivity in a sport activity vehicle (SAV),” Musa Al-Aruri, general manager of Mohamed Yousuf Naghi Motors (MYNM), told a media conference at Le Jeddah Meridien Hotel.
“The new 4.8 liter seven-seater has been developed in response to market demand for increased passenger space,” he said. “With its introduction, BMW continues to lead the SAV sector through its innovative products and designs,” said Al-Aruri who was accompanied by MYNM’s Regional Manager Kamal Momina.”
Featuring powerful and refined eight and six cylinder engines mated to a standard six-gear automatic transmission, the X5, which claims to mark a new era in the SAV segment, also features BMW ‘xDrive’ permanent all-wheel drive system and optimized suspension for unmatched agility and handling. “Going by its exclusive features despite stiff competition, we hope to market 500 units in the Saudi market this year,” Al-Aruri added. He said BMW had been manufacturing environment-friendly cars and its X5 was one of the glaring examples. “The X5 raises the bar yet again when it comes to SAVs, having led the segment since its inception in 1999. It continues to innovate in a rapidly growing market,” Al-Aruri, added. “This new offering builds on an already successful platform, featuring refined exterior and interior design and better handling dynamics, all in a truly versatile vehicle.” Two exceptional X5 models are on offer — the 4.8i and the 3.0si, featuring eight-cylinder and six-cylinder engines, respectively.
A renewed eight-cylinder engine on the 4.8i outputs a maximum of 355 hp and 350-lb of torque between 3,400 and 3,800 rpm. Acceleration from 0-100 km/h in 6.5 seconds means the 4.8i sets the standard from the SAV segment, topping out at an electronically limited 240 km/h.
“The six-cylinder X5 3.0si is no slouch either. This state-of-the-art engine combines performance and technology to deliver a 272 hp and 232-lb of torque at 2,750 rpm, which translates to a 0-100 km/h time of 8.1 seconds and a top speed of 225 km/h,” he said. The X5 is the first SAV to offer ‘AdaptiveDrive’ granting the driver unprecedented control on the road.
by carefully coordinating interaction between the anti-roll bars and dampers,” Al-Aruri added. “In addition to the xDrive all-wheel drive system, its dynamic stability control and a host of safety features ranging from ABS anti-lock brakes to cornering brake control, the X5 is one of the surest vehicles on the road.”
A newly designed interior has been granted more space — 18.7 centimeters of additional length and 6.8 centimeters of width — making the X5 highly versatile, with space for up to seven occupants. Innovative features and a high-class interior ensure the driver and passengers are offered both comfort and functionality.
“Innovative technology and premium quality are on offer, combined with elegant design and outstanding driving dynamics, making the X5 the vehicle of choice in the SAV segment,” said Al-Aruri. “A versatile and luxurious vehicle, the BMW X5 promises to continue in the steps of its predecessor, offering an unparalleled driving experience, unmatched quality and superior engineering.”
The X5 is equipped with BMW’s trend setting iDrive control concept to mastermind the navigation, air conditioning, entertainment, and communication functions. As an option, information relevant to the driver may also be presented on the head-up display quite unique in the SAV segment.
Mobile entertainment for the X5 is again offered at an even higher standard - available second row DVD video system, a CD or DVD changer in the glove compartment, as well as a multi-channel audio system are only some of the options on offer.
