JEDDAH, 21 April 2007 — The Jeddah Technical College (JTC) and Britain’s City College Brighton and Hove (CCBH) are planning to sign an agreement next June concerning student and knowledge exchange between the two colleges, according to JTC Dean Mansour Al-Maiman.
He said that the idea of creating a cooperative arrangement between the two colleges was the result of an invitation, which was sponsored by the British Council, to visit the CCBH. Nine students and three professors visited the school in March.
Al-Maiman said that a group from CCBH is expected to visit the JTC in October to tour the facilities and study possible ways of cooperation between the two colleges.
About the visit to the UK, Al-Maiman said that they sent nine of the school’s finest mechanical engineering students to learn about teaching methods at the British school.
The JTC is planning to organize a one-day conference in June. Tony Calderbank, regional vocational education manager at the British Council, said that they would sponsor the CCBH dean to be the keynote speaker at the conference. He said a group of students and academics from the CCBH are scheduled to visit the JTC this fall.
This exchange program was an initiative of the JTC dean and Calderbank said this could be the first step in a wider plan for similar exchange programs. He said the British Council was holding a similar program with the Riyadh College of Telecommunications.
