Handball League

In the Saudi Handball League last week, Al-Ahli outplayed Al-Safa (37-22) at the Jeddah Saudi Youth Welfare indoor hall, and Al-Wehda defeated Al-Adalah (35-21) at the Al-Ahsaa Saudi Youth Welfare indoor hall. While at the Prince Naif ibn Abdulaziz Sport City in Al-Qatif, Al-Qadisiya downed Mudar (26-21) and Al-Khaleej beat Al-Nour (25-24) in extra-time after the teams drew 20-20 in regulation period. The top four teams would meet again with Khaleej meeting Nour and Ahli playing Qadisiya in home games.

Al-Khuwailidi’s Mark

Long jumper Mohammed Al-Khuwailidi set a new record in Asia at the Kingdom Athletics Championship last Thursday in Riyadh. Al-Khuwailidi soared to 8.25 meters during the Saudi Athletics Federation Cup competition at Prince Faisal ibn Fahd Stadium. With this record he is now eligible to participate at the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008 and his effort places him behind South African long jumper Godfrey Mokoena, who has jumped a distance of 8. 33m.

7th GCC Swim Gala

The 7th GCC Swimming Championship, a one day event, kicks off today in the Eastern Province at the Half Moon Bay. Swimmers will compete over 5 km. Five participants from each country compete in each of three age categories — men, youth and juveniles. The opening ceremony is set for 1:00 p.m. with folk dance. Entrance is free.
