Diabetes High Among Hail Public Servants

HAIL, 2 May 2007 — About 35 percent of civil servants in the north-central region of Hail became diabetics without their knowledge, according to a report of the medical committee for the early detection of diabetes.

Out of the 100 officials in various government offices 35 tested positive for diabetes and weren’t previously aware of their condition, Al-Madinah newspaper reported yesterday.

On the other hand, the study noted that soldiers and policemen were less prone to the disease.

Only 11 percent of the samples from security personnel tested positive for the disease. The better health of the security men is attributed to their field activities and physical exercises.

According to a sutdy, 23.7 percent of the Saudis are suffering from diabetes and 27.9 percent do not know that they have high levels of sugar in their blood.
