Dammam School Tops Kingdom in CBSE 12th Exams

JEDDAH, 26 May 2007 — The International Indian School-Dammam (IISD) has topped with 96.8 percent in the Class 12th examination results of the annual Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), which were announced yesterday.

The International Indian School-Jeddah (IISJ) followed with 92.8 percent and Indian International School-Riyadh (IISR) 77.04 percent. The Gulf states have recorded a 93.29 pass percentage this year.

Of the 503,161 students who appeared for the examination both in India and abroad, 80.64 percent passed, an increase of 1.09 percent over last year.

In all 316 students appeared at the examination from IISD, out of whom 306 students passed and seven were placed in compartment in one subject.

This is IISD’s best result compared to previous years. Its four toppers are Saima Khan 94.4 percent, Farhan Abbas Sayed 94 percent, Sameera Shakir and Sharon Tharkan Abraham 93.4 percent and Sarah Khan 93 percent.

Five of its students scored 100 percent in math and one in home science. IISD Chairman Dr. Mumtaz Ali and members of its managing committee congratulated the toppers and their parents and appreciated the efforts of the teachers.

The top rank in the Kingdom was a pleasant surprise for Saima, who intends to pursue her higher studies in electronics and communication engineering at NIT in Allahabad. She thanked her teachers for giving all encouragement and the school for providing a good learning atmosphere. “Be honest to yourself,” is Saima’s advice to other students.

“This is the result of team work,” E.K. Mohammad Shafe, principal of IISD, told Arab News. He congratulated his team of dedicated staff, saying they are “the real architect behind this wonderful result.” He also commended parents for their continuous support in terms showing deep interest in the education of their children and the management committee for its cooperation and guidance.

According to the IISJ, 367 of its students sat for the examination of whom 289 were in first division, 51 in second division and one in third division. There were 564 distinctions obtained by the students in different subjects. Noorunisa topped in the school by securing 93 percent, followed by Hannan Syed Javed Mahmood 91.4 percent and Diana Grace Jacob 89.6 percent.

Among the boys, Hassan Mahfooz was the topper with 91.2 percent, followed by Faheem Thaha Moodavan Kattil and Shaikh Mohammed Abdul Basith with 90.8 and 90.2 percent, respectively. Saud Parvez and Hanan Javed scored 100 percent in math.

“The board examination results this year show a marked improvement with an increase of six percent,” IISJ Principal M.S. Rahman said.

Girls of IISR occupied the top spots with Seeni Hussain Banu topping the list with 93.8 percent, followed by Sumaiya Arfeen 91.4 percent, Asma Hussein 91 percent, Firdos Ibrahim 90.4 percent and Sonali Nair 88.6 percent. Shifa Omer Bamukra 87.4 percent was third in the commerce stream.
