JEDDAH, 29 May 2007 – Jeddah Raceway (JRW) has appointed Faisal Alsaikhan, a Saudi, as its track manager. His appointment is considered an important step for the Kingdom’s rapidly developing motor sport industry.
Faisal, who is the first Saudi to be appointed in that position, is acknowledged as one of the pioneering Saudis in the automotive sport industry. After he proved his competence, diligence and intelligence in organizing many races across the Kingdom in the last two years, he was selected by the General Presidency of Youth Welfare to be on the Saudi automobile and motorbike sports committee.
It all began with his supervision of the Hail international rally that was held in 2006. After that race and his success, he was retained as the head supervisor of all automotive competitions in the Kingdom and has had an amazing track record. His success at supervising the first RallyCross for JRW, which was held last month, made it easy for JRW to offer him the position of track manager to become the first Saudi to hold that position.
Mishal Al-Sulaiman, managing director and vice chairman of the JRW board, expressed his confidence in Faisal and his experience.
“In fact, it has been my desire to hire Saudi nationals in such positions. From the first day we decided to build JRW, our first goal was to train and hire effective Saudi nationals to organize, supervise and conduct the day-to-day business of the race facilities. We have had difficulties finding a Saudi to lead the team. but we have overcome this hurdle with Faisal and we feel confident that he is the right person for this task,” Al-Sulaiman said.
Faisal will be selecting and training more Saudis to assist in the organization of future races and events that will be held at JRW, he added.
