JEDDAH, 30 May 2007 — Teachers at an elementary school here thought it would be a swell idea to blackmail their principal through the magic of modern technology, the daily Al-Madinah reported yesterday. The principal told the daily that he came to work one day to find a DVD on his desk containing audio and digital video recordings made from cell phones of his activities throughout the year. Without elaborating on the nature of the activities, the principal said the teachers threatened to send the DVD to education higher-ups if the principal didn’t purse teachers’ records of their days of absence. But the principal would have nothing to do with blackmail and sent the DVD to education higher-ups himself.

Plate of Kebab, Hold the Glass

DAWADMI, 30 May 2007 — People who ate at a restaurant here were admitted to the hospital after complaining of stomach pains, the daily Al-Madinah reported yesterday. Health department officials investigated and discovered that the food in the restaurant contained yummy shards of glass that had broken from some glass-utensils that were being used to prepare the food. Glass utensils? Whose genius idea was that?
