JEDDAH, 4 June 2007 — The role of security agencies was in focus at a meeting here on Saturday night.
“Our alert security agencies have foiled many terrorist attacks in the past,” Abdullah ibn Eisa Al-Eisa, head of the local chapter of ASIS International (American Society for Industrial Security) told the meeting held at the Jeddah Hilton.
The meeting discussed in great detail the role of security agencies and how they have been instrumental in maintaining peace, particularly at various industrial locations.
Government officials, security experts and company executives were among those present.
He said the Jeddah branch of the world body had been established to provide services related to industrial security including training, and updating knowledge and technology. “The Jeddah office is ASIS’ 194th chapter in the world,” Al-Eisa said.
The meeting aimed to provide an opportunity for security experts, especially in the Western Province, to benefit from the society’s activities that include enriching knowledge and expertise in the area of industrial security.
“Our objective is also to organize an exchange program that will enable experts to travel worldwide and share their knowledge and expertise,” Al-Eisa said.
According to him, ASIS is one of the largest professional and non-profit organizations dedicated to industrial security. Established in 1955, the international body today boasts 35,000 members from all parts of the world.
“It is the endeavor of ASIS to improve industrial security and enhance manpower efficiency by developing educational programs. These are being done through research and training, and seminars and exhibitions, and publishing scientific magazines,” he said, and urged all experts to join the organization to promote a culture of security in society.
