MANILA, 14 June 2005 — A top official of the Philippine Overseas Employment Admi-nistration said they have entered the age of technology and now entertain paperless transactions.
Administrator Rosalinda Baldoz told Arab News that the agency has begun the online processing of contracts and other essential documents for overseas employment.
“Aspiring migrant workers, particularly the so-called ‘agency-hired’ do not need to go to the POEA because they can process their documents through the Internet,” Baldoz also said in a report by a national newspaper.
According to Baldoz, the electronic processing of working contracts has been pilot-tested among agency-hired overseas workers and will be expanded when proven successful.
With this development, she said the POEA hopes to eliminate the long queues of workers applying for overseas jobs as well as the occasional ensuing stampedes.
Meanwhile, Baldoz was quoted as saying the government is embarking on a series of marketing missions in an effort to provide more job opportunities for Filipino workers abroad.
“We have lined up a series of marketing missions this month so we can facilitate the demand for skilled Filipino workers as well as provide more jobs for our Filipino workers,” she said.
More than 2,500 Filipinos leave the country everyday for overseas jobs, latest statistics by the POEA show.
