RIYADH, 19 June 2007 — A new SR525-million company based on trigeneration of power — distilled water as well as chilled and hot water — was unveiled on Sunday at the Faisaliah Hotel here. The launch of National Trigeneration CHP Company (NTCC) was held under the chairmanship of Prince Saud ibn Fahd in the presence of company shareholders and representatives of the Ministry of Commerce.
NTCC is authorized by the Commission of Electricity Rationalizations Dual-Production to construct trigeneration energy plants with a capacity of 1,000 megawatt of electricity, 160,000 cubic meters of distilled water and 2.61 million tons of chilled and hot water for industrial and commercial purposes. NTCC customers will have an easy access to these services from the company’s power stations set up in various selected sites.
Speaking at a press conference after NTCC’s maiden meeting of shareholders, Saud said: “We hope that NTCC will significantly contribute to the development of the national economy in general, as well as the growing sector of energy, in particular. We, as pioneers in energy sector in the Middle East, are making an all-out effort to further fulfill the Kingdom’s increasing need for power technologies.” The prince pointed out that it is a Saudi joint-stock company concerned with supplying cooling services and thermal energy as well as electricity.
Salah Al-Afaliq, vice chairman of the board of directors of NTCC, said the idea of establishing the company is not new. Saud said it was the outcome of high-level cooperation among shareholders whose main concern was to support the Kingdom’s economic development by producing environmental-friendly clean energy in conformity with international standards.
Al-Afaliq said NTCC has been formed on solid grounds supported with highly developed managerial structure. “It is committed to providing customers with innovative external supply solutions related to build-operate-transfer (BOT) scheme, which is based on a substantial extensive quality control program focusing on customers’ requirements and needs and directing their attention toward their main businesses.” Besides, he added that NTCC has worked out a wide range of solutions that are well- adapted to environment without devitalizing its potential for saving electricity consumption, heating and air cooling energy.
Confirming that NTCC is divided into two strategic units, Al-Afaliq said the first unit is the TRINAS Plant that will provide customers with electricity, cooling services, as well as thermal energy through individual or corporate trigeneration power stations based on the BOT scheme. The Turbine Services Plant will offer energy solutions targeted at raising the efficiency of energy consumption through the BOT scheme, he added.
He further said the Electricity Rationalization and Dual-Production Commission encourages such investments and endeavors to cope with all obstacles and difficulties and give the specialized companies the opportunity to take part in development plans under the patronage of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah.
