JEDDAH, 19 June 2007 — The International Medical Center (IMC) recently signed a memo of understanding (MOU) and mutual cooperation with the King Abdul Aziz University (KAU) Hospital that would see both institutes share resources and expertise.

“This comes as a desire to exchange the experiences and facilities of the two hospitals especially since the IMC is new and in partnership with the Cleveland Clinic Foundation,” said Dr. Mazrou, dean of KAU’s College of Medicine and director of KAU Hospital. The MOU was signed at the IMC building here. Dr. Mazrou added that Dr. Walid Fitaihi, CEO and chairman of the board of directors of the IMC, initiated the MOU since the IMC is planning to start a medical school. He added that Fitaihi hopes that the IMC would be able to benefit from the KAU Hospital’s experience.

The agreement will allow the King Abdul Aziz Health Colleges to benefit from the IMC by participating in its educational process and final graduate and post-graduate examinations. It further allows each party to exchange medical expertise subject to operational requirements. Both institutes can now also avail of each other’s professional experts after official working hours.

The KAU Hospital and the IMC will also now use each other’s developed programs and short elective courses, and research teams from both institutes will be able to benefit from the research capabilities.

The two educational institutes will also set up a joint International Medical Project every two years and participate in multiple joint scientific symposia, presentations and workshops. They will also cooperate effectively for the fruitful utilization of their medical library facilities, including the Electronic Library Information services and laboratories.
