JEDDAH, 22 June 2007 — The Muslim World League (Rabita Alam-e-Islami) has announced the names of the winners of “Nabi Rahmat” global contest. The first prize is jointly shared by Dr. Faisal Ahmad Nadvi from India and Dr. Muhammad Raghib Al-Sarjani from Egypt. The second prize winners are Muhammad Hisamuddin Al-Khatib from Syria and Dr. Zaid Omar Al-Eis of Jordan, while Saudi Arabia’s Dr. Saleh ibn Abdulaziz Al-Tuwaijeri and Maha bint Jarees Al-Jarees were jointly awarded third prize. The winners will be given SR600,000 each at a special ceremony during the Ramadan. According to the Saudi Press Agency, the winners were announced by MWL Secretary-General Dr. Abdullah Al-Turki during a news conference in Jeddah.
Three Maids Arrested at Checkpoint
YANBU, 22 June 2007 — Police in Yanbu arrested three runaway maids, who were trying to avoid a Yanbu checkpoint by trekking through the desert on foot. The women were caught 50km outside Yanbu close to the Yanbu to Jeddah expressway. Capt. Atiqullah Al-Mutairy said the maids were carrying their luggage and had been dropped off by a car on the expressway before the checkpoint. The women were intending to walk round the checkpoint through the desert and join the expressway further along.
Border Guards Save Drowning Man
YANBU, 22 June 2007 — Border guards rescued a swimmer in his 20s in the northern Khor district of Yanbu. The man’s friends reported him drowning after he became exhausted from swimming. The man was rescued by border guards in boats and was provided with first aid and taken to hospital.
Maid Robs Employer and Flees
YANBU, 22 June 2007 — A hunt is under way for an Indonesian maid called Atiqa, who robbed money and jewelry worth SR12,000 from her employer in Yanbu. Hassan Al-Shamry, the maid’s employer, reported the theft and the maid’s disappearance to police. Police spokesman Maj. Naser Al-Otaybi has issued a all point alert to all police patrols. Al-Otaybi suspects the maid has left for Jeddah.
