AL-AHSA, 6 July 2007 — As we know it, chilli powder is traditionally used in cooking. But a couple of thieves in this Eastern Province city, found a way to use it as an effective tool in their trade, the Arabic daily Al-Madinah reported yesterday. First they followed a man as he exited a local bank carrying a bulging bag. Then one of them tapped him on his shoulder and as the man turned around, the other threw a fistful of chilli powder in his eyes. As the victim struggled to clear his eyes, the thieves took off with the bag. The victim however, had the last laugh when he later told police that the bag contained only a few hundred riyals.

ABHA, 6 July 2007 — Passers-by saved a young man from the clutches of an angry villager who took affront to the young Romeo’s behavior toward his womenfolk, the Arabic daily Al-Madinah reported yesterday. The man was in the city on a sightseeing trip with his wives and grown up daughters. He left them momentarily to go inside a shop to buy refreshments. When he emerged from the shop, he saw the young man trying to speak to one of his daughters. The man pounced on the youth and pummeled him with blows. Passers-by, fearing the man would seriously injure the young man, intervened and released the youth from the old man’s iron grip and took him to a hospital where he was treated.
