JEDDAH, 8 July 2007 — Kilawing tanigue, kare-kare, and camaron rebusado are just among the delicacies that await food lovers in a seafood festival that will see some of the best Filipino chefs in Jeddah participating.
To be held at Trident Hotel on July 9 and 10 as part of the Jeddah Summer Festival, the Filipino Seafood Festival will also highlight a fruit- and vegetable-carving plus an ice-sculpting exhibition.
“This event is for everyone, Filipinos and non-Filipinos alike who like good food,” said Manny Zafra, one of the founding members of the Association of the World Class Filipino Chefs in Jeddah.
In addition to some of the best seafood recipes, the chefs will also prepare authentic Filipino desserts such as the cassava cake and biko. The rest of the recipes were being kept secret to surprise food lovers.
Zafra said guests will not only have their choice of good food but also help beneficiaries of the SAM Foundation, which will get a share of the proceeds from the festival.
The foundation provides scholarships and skills training to Overseas Filipino Workers and their families to give them more livelihood options.
Part of the proceeds will go to the association to finance its upcoming activities including seminars on basic cooking.
Festival guests will also be entitled to raffle tickets. Qatar Airways is giving away two-way tickets to Manila as prize, organizers said.
In addition to Qatar Airways, the event is being sponsored by Giordano, Nova water, Alasmak, Alwatania Poultry, Saudi Fisheries Co. and Alhokair.
Other chefs who wish to participate are encouraged to call association leaders Roger Cabacang at 05150-37602, Manny Zafra at 05693-21268, Pablo Gonzales at 05698-69767 or Robertson Rosales at 05400-57706.
