RIYADH, 8 August 2007 — At least a dozen criminal cases have been reported during the last seven days in Riyadh. In one case, robbers inflicted heavy injuries while snatching SR75,000 in cash from a driver for an international fast-food chain.
“Master Nooruddin, who was entrusted with the job of collecting money and depositing it in the company’s account, was robbed in his villa,” said a spokesman for the fast-food giant.
The Riyadh police have so far failed to arrest the criminals. Master Nooruddin, an Indian national, who had to have 29 stitches in his head and surgery to fix his nose, is currently recovering in the Riyadh National Hospital.
In another case this week, Riyadh police are looking for men who robbed a popular Asian restaurant and escaped with a substantial amount of cash. The robbers broke open the cash box and managed to make off with the day’s receipts.
“The robbery occurred at night when the restaurant was closed,” said H.M. Haroon, a restaurant employee.
