Today is the 60th Independence Day of Pakistan, I extend my heartiest felicitation to the Pakistani community living in the Western Region. On 14th August, 1947 Pakistan emerged as an independent and sovereign state on the map of the world for which the Muslims of the Subcontinent struggled under the dynamic leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
The creation of Pakistan was made possible through the Quaid’s principles of Unity, Faith and Discipline that gave the Muslim strength and courage to work for the paramount cause of Independence.
Only united and strong countries can withstand the insurmountable odds and face external and internal threats. It is our prime duty to make Pakistan stronger, prosperous and progressive country.
Today we should examine our strengths and weaknesses and we should not only rejoice but also pray for the prosperity of our country as also renew our pledge to make Pakistan a shining star in the comity of nations. 14th August also reminds us of the struggle and sacrifices our forefathers have given for our independence.
This day demands that we should stand together as a nation, united to face all kind of challenges with courage and fortitude.
Alhamdulillah, our sound, far-sighted, well thought and consistent policies and reforms over the last eight years have resulted in economic stability, growth and prosperity as also recognition in international community as enlightened, moderate and progressive democratic state.
There is an elected government and representatives of the people are working at all tiers, from the national and provincial governments down to the grass roots level. The defense of the country is now impregnable and no one can dare to cast an evil eye on us.
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia enjoy cordial relationship. These ties have been further strengthened by the eternal bond of religion, geographical proximity and presence of large number of Pakistanis.
There is mutual understanding at all regional and international fora on issues of common interests as well as Muslim Ummah.
Custodian of Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah’s visit to Pakistan last year gave a boost to the fraternal relations that were further augmented by Crown Prince Sultan’s visit. Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz also visited the Kingdom followed by President Pervez Musharraf, who visited Saudi Arabia twice during the last six months.
These visits are reflective of the importance of warm and cordial relations between the two brotherly countries.
I also appreciate the support and help at each and every level to Pakistan and its people extended by King Abdullah ibn Abdul Aziz, the Crown Prince Sultan ibn Abdul Aziz, the government and the brotherly people of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
It will be unfair if we do not mention the contribution of the Pakistani community in the economic development of both Pakistan and the host country. Pakistani expatriates are the real ambassadors of their country. At this juncture I take this opportunity, to urge upon the Pakistani community living in Western Region to abide by the laws of the host country, work with more enthusiasm, honesty, dedication and portray the true image of Pakistan.
As Consul General of Pakistan, I will also endeavor my best and spare no effort in furthering the existing brotherly relations between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
Zaigham Uddin Azam
Consul General
