BURAIDAH, 15 August 2007 — The road from Buraidah to Al-Asyah was briefly closed after oil spilled from a trailer on a steep mountain road northeast of Buraidah.

A source from Buraidah traffic police said this was the second oil spill to take place at the same spot in one month. He added that no one was injured.

The road was closed while the oil-covered road was cleaned. “Officials from Buraidah traffic police, the Civil Defense and the Saudi Red Crescent Society were at the scene helping to clean the road and organize traffic,” the source said.

The trailer was also seen emptying part of its oil next to the road under the supervision of traffic police, as it was very hard for it to continue the journey on the steep mountain road. Cars piled up on the road while oil was cleaned.

The Buraidah-Al-Asyah road is witnessing an unusual increase in traffic after the opening of a new road that links Hafr Al-Baten and the northern regions of the Kingdom through the Al-Dahna desert. The majority of vehicles using the road tend to be trucks and trailers.
