JEDDAH, 16 August 2007 — The Saudi national youth basketball team fly to the UAE tomorrow for the third and final training camp in preparation for the GCC Basketball Championship for youth to be held in Dubai, UAE from Aug. 19 to 24. After the UAE training the 14 players will be pruned down to 12 who will carry the national colors in the regional competition. Prior to the UAE training camp the team have had training stints in Jeddah and Turkey for 14 days. The players are Hassan Adam, Suwaied Abdullah, Salman Al-Muwallad, Fouzan Khaleel, Ayman Al-Muwallad, Faisal Al-Doussari, Yazeid Al-Doussari, Hani Al-Mohammed, Siraj Abu Suwaiheil, Mohammed Al-Marwani, Ayoub Al-Hawasawi, and Turki Al-Mahanna. To accompany the team are coach Dijan Tomitch, his assistant Abdulrahman Shaheen and two team officials namely Sadiq Gadi and Dr. Fadl Al-Obaidan.
Water Polo Team in Al-Jabal Al-Aswad
JEDDAH — The national water polo youth team captained by Ahmed Al-Shammari entered training camp in Al-Jabal Al-Aswad in preparation for the Arab Water Polo Championship for under 23 to be held in Egypt from Sept. 4 to 9. The team include Hussain Al-Jizani, Rida Al-Sadiq, Yassir Birnawi, Yassir Al-Zahrani, Walid Al-Ghamdi, Ayman Al-Oryani, Mohammed Gahhal, Faisal Birnawi, Hattan Al-Olayan, Abdullah Al-Zahrani, Hamid Al-Nufaiyei, Mitib Al-Malki, and Mohammed Al-Jubairi. Joining the team are Abdullah Kashmiri and Saeed Al-Ghamdi,manager and official respectively; assistant coaches Mohammed Ghallab and Milorad Kivokabk and coach Vladimier Bakofk.
Saudi Spikers Play Friendlies in Serbia
JEDDAH — In preparation for the 14th Asian Senior Men’s Volleyball Championship to be held in Jakarta, Indonesia from Sept. 1 to 9 the Saudi national volleyball team continue their training camp in Serbia until Aug. 25. During this period the team played one friendly match which they lost against the Serbian national team 3-1. Today, the team play their second out of five friendlies against one of Serbia’s clubs. According to team manager Saleh Al-Qasem, the first friendly was a good and tough game. He said the injured Misfr Al-Bishi is recovering very well. “If Al-Bishi’s health continued to improve the chances are 90 percent he would join the team in the Arab Games,” he said over the phone from Serbia.
