Wehda Defeat Al-Hazem 3-2 to Go Top

JEDDAH, 31 August 2007 — The Makkah-based club Wehda ended Al-Hazem’s surprising run with a 3-2 victory at home last night in the second round of the Saudi football league 3-2.

With the victory Wehda took the lead of the league with 6 points and seven goals in two mathes.

Wehda went 2-0 up on goals by Essa Al-Muhayyani in the 15th minute and Abdullah Jonior in the 46th minute. Al-Hazem pulled one back with a goal in the 55th minute and finally equalized in the 69th minute. Muhammad Al-Yousuf scored both goals.

The match would have ended in a 2-2 draw were it not for the winning goal by Ahmad Al-Mousa in the 76th minute.

In Tabuk, Al-Ittihad and Al-Watani battled to a goalless draw. Action continues today with two matches. Taie are at home to Shabab in Hail and Najran to Qadisiya in Najran. In the Gulf Cup Championship 2007, Al-Hilal advanced to the second round after defeating hosts Umm Salal of Qatar 2-1. After a 0-0 first half, Salal tallied the first goal in the 62nd minute. Yaser Al-Qahtani scored the equalizer in the 84th minute and he again fired the winner in the 90th minute from a nice pass from Tariq Al-Tayeb in front of the goalie. Al-Qahtani outmaneuvered the Qatari goalkeeper and put the goal in the back of the net. Hilal will face Kuwait of Kuwait in the last match next Sunday.
