Citywide Parades in Jeddah on National Day

JEDDAH, 23 September 2007 — The Jeddah Municipality has planned citywide parades this evening to commemorate the National Day. Ten other events over the following four days are also in the works.

The parades will kick off in different areas of the city: Ubrog Al-Righamah east of Jeddah, downtown’s historic area and along the Corniche, according to Ahmad Al-Ghamdi, head of the media department of the Jeddah Municipality.

The parades will include military marching and traditional art groups as well as folkloric sideshows. The events of the following days will be staged in various locations around the city and will include traditional and cultural shows, children’s events, contests, vintage car exhibitions, motorbike shows and traditional dances.

In order to make the celebrations more lively, the municipality has coordinated with various public and private organizations. The municipality would beautify trees and the lamp posts along Tahliah Street and King’s Road with traditional lanterns and different lighting decorations. The parades are scheduled to begin after Isha (evening) prayers.
