JEDDAH, 28 September 2007 — Monday night Gold’s Gym completed its 2nd annual Ramadan Basketball Tournament. This year organizer Captain Assad, Gold’s Gym’s outdoor supervisor, added a new twist — a two on two competition.

Gold’s Gym is working toward changing the lives of young people in the community by offering professional training to the youth of Jeddah. The contest was geared toward enhancing the skills of the players. Owner Sobhi Batterjee was on hand viewing the contest and praised the level of play that was displayed by the players.

In the previous night’s semifinal games, the team of Samir Wasiah and Rayed Kandil thrilled the crowd with some amazing three-point shooting. Samir made nine shots and missed three, and Rayed hit five out of seven. That’s an unheard of 14 out of 19 shots, to make it to the final game. The team of Faris Nadif, Ahmed Alm, and Muhammad Shopin won their match with Faris leading his team driving to the basket and hitting the three.

In the final matchup speed determined the outcome. Faris moving to the basket was too much for Samir and Rayed and at halftime the score was 16-4.

Faris, Ahmed, and Muhammad coasted to a 31-12 victory claiming the title and the prize of 6 months free membership at Gold’s Gym. Samir and Rayed received their cup and 3 months free at the gym.

Adding to the night’s festivities was a three-point shoot out where 14-year-old Ahmed Bana made 6 out of 10 to win the contest.

An exhibition game with Ahmed Bana and Muhammad Shopin, two 14 year olds went one on one against each other with Ahmed winning. With its competitions and expert training Gold’s Gym has secured its place in our community for years to come.

Al Shifa Honey was the event sponsor, and Red Bull provided refreshments.
