HAIL, 28 September 2007 — A group of exuberant Saudis crowded around a bus at a checkpoint in Hail, essentially forcing the driver to stop for the breaking of the daily Ramadan fast (iftar), the daily Al-Madinah reported yesterday. It’s common to see in the Kingdom during Ramadan do-gooders who pass out food at stoplights and other places for iftar in the spirit of charity and good will. In this case, the young men insisted that the driver and the passengers enjoy the goodies they were passing out. This is actually not surprising to anyone who has ever tried to politely turn down an offering of food in Saudi Arabia regardless of the time of year.
