RIYADH, 15 October 2007 — Abdul Malik wanted to be a hero, but instead he became a victim.
According to yesterday’s Al-Riyadh newspaper, Abdul Malik saw three men harassing a young woman on the first night of Eid in Riyadh’s Nadheem district. Deciding to be Superman (or Batman, or something) Abdul Malik rushed to the damsel in distress only to be accosted by the three.
They beat him up, stole his wallet and, noticing that Abdul Malik didn’t have sufficient cash on him, drove him to the nearest ATM and threatened further harm if he didn’t enter his PIN and withdraw the maximum daily ATM limit of SR5,000 from his account. Then they dropped the chivalrous young man off on a street corner and fled with his money and, probably, a good amount of his dignity.
