RIYADH, 6 November 2007 — Castrol Saudi Arabia will sponsor the 20 overs tournament in cooperation with organizers Riyadh Cricket Association (RCA). This will be RCA’s first tournament of the new season 2007-2008 that will conclude in May next year.
Ian Yarwood, general manager of Castrol Saudi Arabia and Arifulla Shariff, national sales manager – CTO, met with the office bearers of RCA and finalized the sponsorship details. Yarwood, a keen cricket enthusiast himself, congratulated the RCA for a successful season of 2006-2007 and appreciated the work of RCA for the development of cricket in Riyadh region. He further promised continuous support of Castrol Saudi Arabia in line with his company’s policy of encouraging sporting activities for the local and expatriate community in Saudi Arabia. The tournament has attracted 24 teams. The 12 teams will be fighting in the A division for the Castrol Cup and another 12 teams in the B division will be vying for Castrol Shield. The teams in the A division are divided into two groups as follows:
Group A: SAMBA CC, Sialkot CC, KFSH Blues, ITSO A, Super CC and Friends CC.
Group B: PIA CC, Lahorey Khabey, BSF, Mehran Spices CC, Quest Net and Pak Friends CC. The teams in division B are also divided into two groups as follows:
Group A: ITSO B, KFSH Green, Deccan Blues, Kashmir XI, Attieh Steel and Fuchs Petroleum. Group B: Seham CC, Al Hamra CC, Aces CC, Super Green, United Star and National CC.
RCA President Abdul Qadeer Mirza hoped that the new season will be as successful as last year and wished all the players of RCA for improved performance. He requested that all the matches be played in the right spirit of the game with discipline and sportsmanship.
Fayyaz Bakshi said RCA started the preparations before the month of Ramadan by renovating the grounds. RCA has 5 grounds with international standards, these grounds are located in Sulay area, and he mentioned that this year RCA plans to add two more grounds with nets facilities. For the Castrol Cup RCA has appointed Aslam Sheikh, joint aecretary of RCA as tournament secretary. All teams should contact Sheikh for any issues regarding the Castrol Cup.
