ALKHOBAR, 6 November 2007 — A shopper at a mall here noticed what appeared to be two young men acting in a somewhat suspicious manner. With nothing better to do, the man followed the young men around and noticed that they had a feminine walk. This was enough of a provocation for him to make a call to the local police and the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice, the Al-Yaum daily reported. The police and commission members arrived and promptly arrested the two young men. To their surprise, they discovered that they were in fact 18-year-old girls who had dressed up as men in traditional Saudi garb for Halloween; the shopping part was an extension of their Halloween prank. The two girls were handed over to their parents after they promised not to repeat the “offense” again.
