• Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah has issued a directive to Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Ali Al-Naimi for the establishment of two prizes — one in petroleum research and one in petroleum journalism.
• Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah honored 12 past and present secretaries general of the OPEC as well as outstanding researchers and journalists who have contributed to the organization’s development.
• Crown Prince Sultan is leading Saudi Arabia’s delegation to the summit. The delegation includes Prince Abdul Rahman, deputy minister of defense and aviation, Prince Badr, deputy commander of the National Guard, Interior Minister Prince Naif, Riyadh Governor Prince Salman, Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal, Prince Abdul Aziz bin Salman, assistant minister of petroleum and mineral resources for petroleum affairs, State Minister Dr. Abdul Aziz Al-Khuwaiter, Labor Minister Dr. Ghazi Al-Gosaibi, Civil Service Minister Mohammed Ali Al-Fayez, Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Ali Al-Naimi and Finance Minister Dr. Ibrahim Al-Assaf.
• Most member countries were represented at the summit by their heads of state but Indonesia sent its vice president while Libya its oil minister. The leaders were received at the airport by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah, Crown Prince Sultan and senior princes and ministers.
