DUBAI, 27 November 2007 — LG Electronics aims at selling half million mobile phone units in Saudi Arabia and 450,000 units in the UAE and other GCC countries next year, said LG Electronics’ Middle East and Africa Operation President Ki Wan Kim.
At the launch of its new mobile phone Viewty-LG-KU990 here yesterday, he said LG expects to sell 300,000 mobile phone units in Saudi Arabia and 350,000 handsets in other GCC countries this year. “We will launch another 3G model- KU380 in December and we have huge plans for next year with different hi-tech models,” he added.
Viewty is LG’s latest camera phone that features an impressive 5-megapixel camera with auto focus and xenon flash. It is the first handset in LG’s new line of high technology category of handsets and boasts a number of “world first” easy-to-use features never seen before on a mobile handset. Combining sophistication with ultimate functionality, this 5-megapixel handset includes manual focus, which is the first time this feature will launch globally.
“The launch of ‘Viewty’ shows our commitment to provide features-hungry mobile users with a highly sophisticated handset,” Kim told Arab News.
With a manual option, the camera focus can be set on any point at the users’ convenience giving high quality photos every time. When taking photos in poor light or shaking moment, users can also benefit from ISO800 & SmartLight and one touch Image Stabilizer for bright and clear pictures.
The world’s first LCD full touch-screen mobile was introduced by LG with the launch of the “PRADA Phone by LG”, which now has been advanced with LG “Viewty” by adding a touch signal to allow the user to confirm proper functioning of the touch screen. The Viewty can also record high quality video recording, at an amazing 120 frames per second — the highest in the world.
Once a picture has been taken, users can instantly view and edit their image on the 3-inch full LCD touch screen with its handwriting editing function. The full screen enables users to enjoy high quality DivX video files in widescreen format. Taking videos has never been easier and now they can be shared with the world, with a single-click connection through HSDPA 3.6 high-speed internet capability to YouTube.
Users can easily select the modes – “Camera”, “Video”, and “Album” with the 3-step module key.
“European market has accepted Viewty mobile phone with high interest and we are sure that it will be a hit in the Middle East market too, said Andrew Song, LG’s GSM product manager.
“The fourth quarter outlook seems to be bright for mobile handset sales and profits, which is expecting a peak owing to seasonality and a rise in 3G phones,” he added.
