MAKKAH, 9 December 2007 — A fire that broke out in a residential building in Makkah’s Sharayie area has resulted in the death of a woman. Lt. Col. Ali Al-Muntashri, spokesman for the Civil Defense in Makkah, said the fire started in the kitchen at 7 a.m. yesterday.
Civil Defense rescue teams took the woman and her nine-month-old baby to hospital for treatment since both were unconscious due to smoke inhalation. The mother later died at King Faisal Hospital.
“The baby’s condition is stable,” the spokesman said. He said no criminal links to the blaze were suspected.
