MAKKAH, 18 December 2007 — Around 2,700 students and staff from the King Fahd Security College are participating in this year’s Haj as ushers to ensure the security, safety and comfort of pilgrims.
“The participation of students is crucial in helping them implement what they have learned in their courses,” said Gen. Abdul Rahman Al-Fida, head of administration at the college.
“The course teaches students how to organize traffic, how to use walky-talkies, how to build checkpoints and how to use motorbikes,” said Al-Fida, adding that students have also undergone courses on how to deal with fires and provide first aid.
He added that college officials are in charge of organizing traffic in Mina and on King Abdul Aziz Road, King Faisal Road and Al-Qasir Street. “Participating in Haj gives students a chance to become responsible before they even graduate,” said Al-Fida.
Maj. Faisal Al-Bugami, head of the Public Relations Department and Education Techniques Center, said that the students had developed new techniques to help pilgrims.
“Many of the students have MAs in psychology, which help them deal with pilgrims when they get lost,” he said, adding that since some students can speak English, French and Russian. “This makes it easer for them to communicates with pilgrims of various nationalities,” he said.
