JUBAIL, 30 December 2007 — Police arrested 13 Asians, who performed Haj this year, with forged iqamas, Al-Watan newspaper reported yesterday. A police source said that one of them was caught in Jubail with a number of forged papers and a fake ID. He later told police that he had come to work in Jubail with the help of a relative working there. The police then went to the man’s residence where they found 12 more overstayers. A police spokesman said that they would be taken to the Passport Department and then deported to their home countries.
Municipality Closes Down Restaurant
TAIF, 30 December 2007 — The Municipality of Taif, in cooperation with the police department, closed a restaurant and arrested its workers for violating the rules and regulations of the Civil Defense Department regarding standards of hygiene, Al-Riyadh newspaper reported. One of the restaurant customers phoned the police who came immediately and found a number of violations.
Luxury Car Owners Beware
ALKHOBAR, 30 December 2007 — Tires and accessories of a Lexus 2007 were stolen from a parking lot in front of the owner’s house, Al-Yaum daily reported. The owner of the car was surprised when he came out the next day and found his car on blocks with all the tires and accessories missing. Police said that thieves have recently been targeting expensive cars because of the money they can sell the stolen spare parts for. An investigation is in progress.
Double Jeopardy for Irate Motorist
JIZAN, 30 December 2007 — A Saudi was caught in a very complex situation after he stabbed a worker in a car maintenance shop after a dispute over payment, Al-Riyadh newspaper reported. Police arrested the attacker and asked him to follow them to the police station. En route, he ran a red light and caused an accident. He is now being treated in a local hospital but will have to face charges after he is discharged.
