JEDDAH, 3 January 2008 — Children at the Disabled Children Association (DCA) will show their talents in painting and handicrafts for the sixth year in a row during the “Color Their Lives” auction and bazaar, taking place at Lailaty Hall in Jeddah on Monday.
The disabled children used their abilities to draw. Some of them drew their pictures using their feet because they were born without hands. The fundraising auction will sell 34 paintings to the attendees. Proceeds from the sale goes to fund DCA activities.
During the event, a disabled child will draw a painting live. This painting will immediately join the auction.
Every year, the association achieves higher proceeds out of the event. According to Princess Latifa bint Thunayyan Al-Saud, president of the women’s committee at the DCA, proceeds from last year’s auction reached SR1 million.
“These children are talented, and we had artists saying that those who painted these paintings cannot be handicapped. These activities make those children more active and outgoing. We notice that clearly from the way they act in front of guests,” the princess said.
The children drew the paintings under the supervision of some artists who will be present during the auction. The artists who are voluntarily participating are Princess Nauf bint Bandar Al-Saud, Iman Meniawi, Hana Hajjar, Sarah Al-Tuweim, Nisreen Abdultawwab and Princess Haya bint Abdullah Al-Saud.
