RIYADH, 4 January 2007 — Members of the Pakistani community in the Kingdom continue to hold condolence meetings and prayers for former Premier Benazir Bhutto who was assassinated in Liaquat Bagh, Rawalpindi, on Dec. 27. More than 3,000 people attended funeral prayers (Ghaibana Namaz-e-Janaza) for the slain leader at the Pakistan International School, here, on Wednesday.
The participants included students and teachers of the school besides a large number of Pakistanis. Pakistan’s Ambassador Shahid Karimullah, Afghan Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Aziz Ullah Karzai, noted businessmen, social workers, poets, writers and journalists also attended the prayers.
Afghan ambassador paying tribute to Benazir said she was very popular in Afghanistan. He said he felt as if he had lost his own sister.
Pakistani ambassador said Benazir was a great leader who played a key role in uniting Pakistanis. Asghar Qureshi, a prominent Pakistani, thanked the ambassadors of Pakistan and Afghanistan for attending the funeral.
