SHARJAH, 10 January 2008 — The Sharjah Criminal Court is looking into a case of a father who is accused of sexually abusing his four young daughters.
Public prosecutors charged the father with two counts of rape and incest. The man faces additional charges based on the fact that the victims of the crimes are minors. The mother told the authorities that the father’s sexual abuse stopped short of penetration. The children’s mother went to authorities after learning about the incident from her daughters. “When I spoke to them, they confided sexual details that only an experienced person would know,” she said.
The woman also said that her husband had called her from his prison cell and begged for forgiveness. He asked her to drop charges because the prosecution would bring shame to the family.
The father, a Lebanese citizen, is in jail and has been denied bail. According to a court source, the daughters are 7, 8, 13 and 14 years old. The father was responsible for taking care of his daughters while his wife went to work.
The father’s defense lawyer says the mother has fabricated the charges.
