JEDDAH, 6 February 2008 — Nominations for the 2008 Presidential Awards for Filipino Individuals and Organizations Overseas are now open, the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh has announced.
Four categories are at stake in the awards that is held every two years. They are the:
• Lingkod sa Kapwa Pilipino (Linkapil) Award — conferred on Filipino associations or individuals for their exceptional or significant contribution to reconstruction, progress and development in the Philippines.
• Banaag Award — conferred on Filipino individuals or associations for their contributions which have significantly benefited a sector or community in the Philippines, or advanced the cause of overseas Filipino communities.
• Kaanib ng Bayan Award — conferred on foreign individuals or organizations for their exceptional or significant contribution to Philippine reconstruction, progress and development, or have significantly benefited a sector or community in the Philippines, or advanced the cause of overseas Filipino communities.
• Pamana ng Pilipino Award — conferred on Filipinos overseas, who, in exemplifying the talent and industry of the Filipino, have brought the country honor and recognition through excellence and distinction in the pursuit of their work or profession.
In a press statement, the embassy said the Commission of Filipinos Overseas is now accepting endorsements from Philippine Foreign Service Establishments abroad for nominations to the awards.
Guidelines, and nomination and endorsements forms may be downloaded at www.cfo.gov.ph.
The completed nomination forms with supporting documents should be forwarded on or before May 15, 2008, to the embassy via mail, fax at (01) 488-3945 or e-mail: [email protected] to secure its endorsement.
For those who wish to submit their nominations directly to the CFO not later than May 30.
The awarding ceremony will be in Malacañang in Manila in December 2008.
A total of 283 overseas-based individuals and organizations from 37 countries, some of them from Saudi Arabia, have been picked for the presidential awards since it began in 1991, said the embassy.
