JEDDAH, 28 February 2008 — The 9th GCC Cycling Championship for youth and the 10th for juveniles kick off on Tuesday in Al-Fujairah, UAE. The six-day two-in-one competition under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed Al-Sharqi, crown prince of the Al-Fujairah Province, attracted 81 cyclists from five countries namely Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, and host UAE. The youth will compete in the 57-kilometer road race and the juveniles in the 35-kilometer race.
Al-Ahli Gear Up for GCC Handball Tourney
JEDDAH — The Al-Ahli handball team general supervisor said the squad is getting for the GCC Handball Championship to be held here from March 13 to 23. The team he said will undergo a one-week training camp in the Eastern Province. Meanwhile, the handball federation secretary-general Abdullah Al-Yehya had informed Youth Welfare district offices about the postponement for Friday of the sixth round of the Saudi Handball League due to the late arrival of the national team who qualified for the 2009 Croatia World Cup after beating Iran in the third-place match in the Asian Championship.
Al-Ghareeb in Australia
JEDDAH — Saudi national team swimmer Mohammed Al-Ghareeb was sent to Sydney, Australia for a training camp to prepare him for long distance races in competitions abroad namely the 8th GCC championship in April, Asian Championship for open water in Syria in August, and another international event in Beijing at the end of this year. Al-Ghareeb won silver medals in previous GCC swimming championships held in Oman and Saudi Arabia. He also placed 19th in the Dubai International Championship and third in the Arab Championship in Syria. Al-Ghareeb is the only Saudi swimmer to specialize in long distance races of 5 to 10 kilometers.

JEDDAH — Al-Ahli footballer Malik Mouath’s website www.malik9.com was hacked yesterday by a hacker who shut the page off and replaced it with a dark black background on which he wrote his name Sheikh Al-Jin (Sheikh of Jin) as well as his phone number. The website administrators said they would launch the website again through a new different version specially that it found appreciation among many Ahli fans and was close to celebrating its first year.
