DAMMAM, 20 March 2008 — Reigning world champion of public speaking Vikas Jhingran, a graduate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, will address the inaugural function of Eastern Province Toastmasters annual conference scheduled for April 17 and 18. Jhingran is the first person of Indian origin to win the world championship.
Former champion Dr. Randy Harvey will be delivering the keynote address on the conference’s theme “Beyond Barriers.”
“This is the first time two world champions are attending a division conference in the Middle East,” said Toastmasters’ Division Governor Abdullattif Al Harthi.
Toastmasters from over 30 clubs will attend the mega event at Le Meridien Hotel in Alkhobar, he said adding that former Education Minister Dr. Mohammed Al-Rasheed will be the chief guest. Dr. Abdulrazak Al-Turki, lieutenant governor, marketing, for Toastmasters Gulf District and president of Eastern Province Handicapped Sports Association will also address the conference.
“Over 1,000 professionals cutting across nationalities, religions and languages are expected to attend the two-day conference,” said conference Chairman Shahul Hameed.
Top professionals in the Kingdom will present eight educational sessions consisting of seminars and workshops on communication and leadership skills.
Speech contests in prepared speech, table topics, humorous speech and speech evaluation will be a part of the annual conference in which winners from five areas will be competing for division level honors. “These winners will later represent Eastern Province Toastmasters at the Gulf District Conference in Bahrain planned for mid-May,” said Hameed.
