RIYADH, 6 April 2008 — A group of Saudi electrical engineering students are to partake in a practical vocational training program at one of the Kingdom’s leading power and automation companies this summer.

Zeid Al-Rumaihi, human resources manager at ABB Saudi Arabia Group, said the program aims to provide talented electrical engineering students with career skills while continuing their academic studies.

“ABB Saudi Arabia has always been at the forefront in offering high quality career training to Saudi students. We have been conducting this training program for the past eight years together with the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in Dhahran, the King Saud University in Riyadh and the Riyadh College of Technology,” he said.

Al-Rumaihi said that the program is for three months. “Selected students will be given intensive training in low and medium voltage equipment production, and related areas at ABB facilities in Riyadh’s second industrial area,” he said.

He added that besides conducting the summer program, ABB Saudi Arabia actively participates in career festivals at technical colleges and universities across the Kingdom.

ABB Saudi Arabia had recently launched with the support of the Saudi Council of Engineers a master’s degree scholarship program for Saudi electrical engineers and fresh electrical engineering graduates to pursue studies in Sweden.

ABB Saudi Arabia, part of the ABB Group founded in 1988, has received numerous awards from the General Organization for Technical Education and Vocational Training, conferred by Riyadh Governor Prince Salman, for its continued efforts in training and employing Saudis.

The company is a leader in power and automation technologies that enable utility and industry customers to improve their performance while lowering impact on the environment. The ABB Group operates in around 100 countries, employing 110,000 people.
