JEDDAH, 15 April 2008 — The 17th Saudi Building and Interiors Exhibition (SBIE) opened yesterday at the Jeddah International Exhibition and Convention Center. Attracting a slew of exhibitors from local, regional and international centers, the show caters to clients involved in all stages of construction as well as interior design and accessories. Open to retail public, the exhibition showcases specialist contractors and innovations in the construction industry and also targets serious business of initiating and concluding deals.
Jeddah Mayor Adel Fakeih in a cheerfully informal ribbon-cutting ceremony opened the proceedings and toured the exhibits, some of which were clearly in the final stages of construction.
Zahoor Siddique, exhibitions director of Al-Harithy Company, said that huge government spending on infrastructure and construction projects in key sectors such as municipal services, education, health, transport and communications had a positive impact on the private construction and investment sectors. “This impact is particularly evident in the creation of six major Economic Cities,” he noted.
Running in concert with the exhibition is a symposium conducted by the Saudi Quality Council — Western Region — featuring expert speakers from the industry.
The Turkish Pavilion , whose exhibitors notched up a particularly successful exhibition last year, is once again the largest overseas with more than 30 companies represented.
