DAMMAM, 29 April 2008 — Saudi women own about 20,000 small- and medium-sized companies and establishments in the Kingdom. Besides, over 20 percent of finance in the joint Saudi investment funds comes from women. These were the observations made by Sheikha Dr. Hissah Bint Saad Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah, chairperson of the Arab Businesswomen’s Council, at the three-day Women Economic Forum that concluded here yesterday.

The Forum titled “Towards Supporting and Financing Small and Medium Firms,” was organized by Business Women Center of Asharqia Chamber, Dammam. It was inaugurated by Princess Jawahar Bint Naif Bin Abdul Aziz.

“There is a big response from Saudi women to obtain commercial registrations which have reached about 43,000 or 20 percent of the total registrations issued in the Kingdom. In addition, Saudi women have an investment trend in all fields, especially real estate and stocks, which were earlier monopolized by men,” said Dr. Al Sabah, who specially came from Kuwait for the event.
