RIYADH, 8 May 2008 — The Ministry of Culture and Information has launched an archives center to document all print and broadcast media from across the world, primarily from the Middle East, Al-Eqtisadiah newspaper reported yesterday.
While formally opening the center in Riyadh late Tuesday, Minister of Culture and Information Iyad Madani said, “The National Center for Media Documentation will be a gateway to media information covering all Saudi, Arab and global media sources on important personalities, institutions and topics.”
The center, which started gathering data two years ago and is being run under the supervision of the ministry’s Planning and Studies Department, aims to create a data bank that would be easily accessible to researchers and media specialists. The center has the latest equipment to scan and document reports and other information appearing in newspapers, radio, television and on the Internet.
The center will operate 24 hours, seven days a week.
