JEDDAH, 16 May 2008 — Glamorgan defeated the Sri Lankan International School Jeddah (SLISJ) in a friendly cricket match played at the WPCA grounds last week.
The event sponsored by Al Ammas Transco Sports Club was organized with the purpose of giving an opportunity to the young school cricketers of playing with Glamorgan, a team comprising seniors and old boys of the school.
SLISJ Captain Shazin Basheer won the toss and elected to bat. They scored 127 runs in the allotted 12 overs with main contribution from captain Shazin (41) Kurram (13) Venaka (11).
In reply, Glamorgan scored the required 128 runs with 2 balls remaining in the last over. It was an impressive performance on the part of the SLISJ team as they fought until the last moment to save the match.
The Sri Lankan team is being coached by B.S. Booso, an experienced cricketer who has played Division 1 cricket in Sri Lanka, assisted by Naushad Marzouk, a cricket player and commentator in the Sri Lankan community.
M.H.M.Ghazally , manager of Al Ammas Transco Sports Club thanked WPCA President of Junaid Iskandar and its executive committee members as well as Rana Hamid for giving permission to make use of the grounds and the necessary support to promote cricket among the Sri Lankan children living in Saudi Arabia.
