JEDDAH, 4 June 2008 — The Rahalah (Traveler) Exhibition for artists concluded on Tuesday night with three artists winning the event’s associated art contest. The three-day exhibition featured more than 150 participants exhibiting various types of art including photography, painting, fashion, writing, sculpture, decoration, cooking and others.
Amal Al-Jibreen, founder of Rahalah and organizer of the event, said that both the participation and attendance were “overwhelming.” She said that more than 2,000 people attended the three-day event.
Sarah Badi, a graduate of King Abdulaziz University, won the first prize of SR75,000 and the golden compass award for her picture of a young girl wearing a Najdi head scarf. Small images of King Abdul Aziz throughout his life were used to form the girl’s picture.
The SR50,000 2nd place prize and the silver compass award went to Majid Fakhri, a young Saudi architect who has developed a new type of Arabic calligraphy. Fakhri painted the phrase “In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful” with his calligraphy on a glass compass.
The SR25,000 3rd place prize and the bronze compass went to the Jeddah Autism Center which presented a decorated canvas with Najdi silver jewelry.
