RIYADH, 8 June 2008 — Prince Turki Al-Faisal opened an art show dubbed “Art Alive — Bridges Competition” at the Faisaliah Hotel here yesterday where 17 Saudi artists, including seven women, displayed their works.
Inaugurating the charity show, sponsored by BMG Foundation, Prince Turki said that this exhibition would not only encourage Saudi artists but also help charitable institutions. He added that the show would give an opportunity for amateur artists to display their skills.
“BMG Financial Group executes its corporate social responsibility through prestigious events that support cultural programs and assist the needy. Our three events — the GCC Polo Cup, Al-Farabi Concerto and Art Alive — aim to build bridges between East and West, promote networks between business leaders and enhance artistic, musical and sporting endeavors,” said Basil Al-Ghalayini, chief executive officer of BMG.
He said that the exhibition aims to enrich the Saudi modern art scene by providing a platform for artists of international repute to exhibit their work around the Kingdom. “This highly successful venture facilitates cultural and artistic interaction,” he added.
Amr Al-Amawi, a member of the organizing team, said Saudi artists from Central, Western, Southern, Eastern and Northern Regions are participating in the exhibition.
“We will select the best artist from each show in Dammam, Riyadh and Jeddah and he or she will be invited to London during the GCC Polo Cup scheduled for June 18, 2008, to exhibit and auction their artworks,” he added.
As part of BMG Foundation’s initiative, funds raised by Art Alive Exhibitions will be given to Prince Sultan Fund for Supporting Small Business Projects for Women in Dammam.
This micro-finance program, run by Prince Mohammad ibn Fahd, was selected from a number of local programs for its initiative in supporting Saudi women.
