MAKKAH: Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, who is also chairman of the provincial council, will discuss the developmental plans for the province's 10-year plan at a meeting of the citizens of Makkah at the Umm Al-Qura University today.

The meeting will also review the progress made on various projects last year. The developmental plans aim at developing human resources as well as the facilities and services for both local people and pilgrims.

The developmental strategy is also designed with an aim of developing Makkah into an international model city. This goal demands that the area should develop in a balanced and sustained manner covering all the administrative zones in the province.

The plan for the development of the province was originally prepared by the Higher Development Authority for Makkah under the former governor, the late Prince Abdul Majeed, with a view to providing the best services to citizens and expatriates for a period of 10 years starting 2009. Officials in all administrative zones, including women officials, have been invited to the meeting. A separate hall has been prepared for the women participants.

Meanwhile, Makkah police yesterday arrested 121 people without any identity documents as well as drug peddlers and some suspected criminals, according to Maj. Abdul Mohsen Al-Mayman, spokesman for Makkah police.

The police were assisted by security patrols, anti-narcotics department and civil defense in the operation that included the Sahel road region, Khawajat road, Dufaq and Umm Al-Rakeh, Al-Mayman said. "The operations will continue systematically on all roads leading to Makkah and nearby towns," he added.
