BURAIDAH: Wednesday’s major power outage in the eastern and central regions of Saudi Arabia didn’t just inconvenience businesses and traffic. Just ask Abdul Aziz from the village of Fawara in Qassim province. Most of his wedding had to take place in the beams of car headlights. The bride was less than happy about not being able to strut her stuff in front of her women friends and relatives, and an attempt to bring in a power generator also failed. According to yesterday’s Al-Eqtisadiah newspaper, many wedding guests were also left stranded at home, unable to make ATM withdrawals. Eventually, the wedding guests that did show up hoofed their way to a hotel 170 km away. And, wouldn’t you know it: Just as the alternative plans were established, the power came back on at around 9:30 p.m.
